Work starts to build terraces into the steep banks on the edge of the site. These will be planted with native trees to stabilise the soil, prevent erosion and recreate the forest using the Miyawaki method.
Soil conditions are checked before planting begins. This is an important stage in the process to ensure that there is sufficient organic material for the trees to grow.
Below work continues on the site overlooking the town of Yamakita with views down the valley to Mount Fuji in the distance.
